In a time-honored maritime tradition dating back centuries, a ceremony was held earlier today aboard Carnival Horizon at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy, during which a commemorative coin was welded to the ship’s mast to mark a significant construction milestone.
The coin ceremony – whose origins can be traced back to the ancient Romans who believed that attaching coins to a ship provided divine protection – signifies the successful completion of Carnival Horizon’s exterior outfitting.

Carnival Magic’s first-ever visit to Aruba was marked with a traditional maritime plaque exchange between officials from the ship and the southern Caribbean island.
Carnival Magic called at Aruba as part of its eight-day cruise schedule from Port Canaveral, Fla., which began earlier this year and features a day-long call to Oranjestad.  Carnival Magic operates year-round five- to eight-day cruises from the Space Coast, visiting beautiful destinations throughout the Caribbean and The Bahamas.

Carnival Vista’s first-ever call at Antigua was marked with a traditional maritime plaque exchange between officials from the ship and the Caribbean island.
Carnival Vista visited Antigua as part of its inaugural cruise from the U.S. – an 11-day Carnival Journeys voyage that departed New York Nov. 5 and will return to the Big Apple Nov. 16.
Carnival Vista then sails on another 11-day cruise that departs New York on Nov. 16 and arrives in Miami November 27, kicking off the ship’s year-round six- and eight-day Caribbean schedule from that port.

Talk about a unique first call celebration!   To mark Carnival Sunshine’s inaugural call at Portland, Maine, a first-call reception was held that included a traditional maritime plaque exchange between the ship’s officers and port officials. Appropriately enough, port officials also presented several lobsters which were expertly prepared for the team that evening as part of a special dinner.

To commemorate the Jacksonville arrival of Carnival Elation, a traditional maritime plaque exchange was held on board between officials from Carnival Cruise Line, JAXPORT and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Carnival Elation kicked off a year-round schedule of four- and five-day cruises from Jacksonville on Monday with a five-day cruise to Freeport and Nassau, Bahamas.  Carnival Elation is expected to carry 170,000 guests annually from the port.
Carnival Cruise Line has sailed from Jacksonville since 2004 and is the only cruise operator offering year-round departures from JAXPORT.
